January 30, 2023 — LANSING, Mich. — The Conservative Energy Network (CEN), with 32 other conservative organizations, today submitted a letter expressing support of Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) and House Republican leadership as they work to implement the policy framework outlined by the House Energy, Climate and Conservation (ECC) Task Force.
“In the 118th Congress, we look forward to your leadership in streamlining onerous regulations holding back all energy development, encouraging clean energy innovation, bolstering domestic supply chains, and unleashing the power of American energy producers to compete on the world stage against the likes of China and Russia,” wrote the 33 organizations.
“House leadership has made clear that prioritizing American-led energy innovation driven by competitive markets will accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies and secure America’s global economic leadership,” said Tyler Duvelius, CEN Director of External Affairs. “CEN believes that the conservative principles expressed by the House ECC Task Force in their policy framework will forge a fair, effective, and prosperous energy transition to a clean energy future. We look forward to working with members of Congress as they work to restore American energy dominance.”
Polling released by CEN in November 2022 found that 81% of Americans support the government taking action to accelerate the development of clean energy in the United States. To accomplish this, 72% of Americans favor approaches to clean energy development that encourage competition by allowing markets and businesses to provide more clean energy production, like those found in the ECC Task Force framework. Conversely, only 16% of voters support government mandates, subsidies, and quotas to advance clean energy production.
The letter was sent to Speaker McCarthy, House Energy & Commerce Committee Chair Rodgers, House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Westerman, House Science, Space and Technology Committee Chairman Lucas, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Thompson, and Representative Garret Graves. The letter can be viewed here along with the full list of signatories.
The ECC Task Force was formed by then-Leader McCarthy as a piece of House Republicans’ Commitment to America. In August 2022, CEN joined 25 organizations in a letter expressing their support of the finalized framework.
