Mark P. Jones is the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy’s Political Science Fellow, the Joseph D. Jamail Chair in Latin American Studies and Professor of Political Science at Rice University. Jones also co-directs the Baker Institute’s Presidential Elections Program and is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs.  Jones is one of the most widely quoted experts on Texas elections, government and politics in the local, state and national media, and his research on the Texas Legislature and on Texas public opinion is frequently consulted by elected officials, the media and the general public. Jones is the lead author of Texas Politics Today and the editor of Voting and Political Representation in America as well as the author of more than one hundred opinion pieces in national and Texas media outlets.  Jones received his BA from Tulane University and his PhD from the University of Michigan.
